AIPAC Ranked #2 for Second Consecutive Year in FORTUNE Magazine's "Power 25"

For the second time in as many years, Fortune magazine's annual survey of Washington's lobbying elite lists the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) as the second most influential lobbying group in the nation's capital.

Fortune's "Power 25" compiles a list of those organizations most effective at pushing their legislative agenda, and is "America's most reliable guide to the high-contact sports of lobbying and legislating."

In a year in which many highly ranked organizations slipped a few spots in the rankings, AIPAC was able to maintain its status as one of the most effective and influential lobbying groups in Washington. The ranking is even more significant considering that those queried for the December 7th edition of Fortune were members of Congress, Hill staffers, senior White House aides, and lobbyists.

In both annual surveys, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), with a budget 26 times that of AIPAC's, and a membership 660 times the size of AIPAC's, occupied the top spot in the rankings.

AIPAC's strong showing in the Fortune "Power 25" adds to the multiple accolades the organization has received this year from the media. In April, the New York Times featured an extensive article on AIPAC's clout, calling AIPAC the most important Jewish organization affecting America's relationship with Israel. Last month, an independent study funded by the Aspen Institute's Nonprofit Sector Research Fund cited AIPAC, by a margin of more than 2 to 1, as the nonprofit organization most effective in working toward foreign aid funding. The study used polling methods very similar to those of FORTUNE.

With multiple media outlets lauding its work and its influence, AIPAC has truly experienced a banner year in terms of public recognition.
