Israeli-Jordanian relations cooled a year-and-half ago in the wake of the attempted assassination of Khaled Meshal, the senior Hamas official who was targeted by the Mossad.
The British weekly stated that Abdallah visited Israel in the past year as a guest of the defense establishment. According to the "Foreign Report", the late King Hussein asked then-Defense Minister Yitzchak Mordechai how much understanding his son showed in defense matters. Mordechai responded saying that he was impressed by the king's son and his understanding. According to the British weekly, after his visit to Israel, Abdallah recommended to his father that Jordan strengthen ties with Israel. Now, Abdallah himself is implementing that recommendation.
As part of the improved relations between the two countries, the Amman branch of the Mossad will re-open, a decision that makes the Mossad very happy. According to the "Foreign Report", the Jordanians will work in closer cooperation with the Mossad, after receiving a promise that nothing like the Meshal affair will happen again.
Also, the British weekly reported that Syria has put in efforts in recent days to try to keep Jordan true to the Arab front. The "Foreign Report" estimates that in a confrontation between Israel and Syria, the US would help Israel to overcome Syria.
