Berlusconi To Sharon – “Israel’s Natural Place Is In The EU”

(IsraelNN.com) In a speech today at the Prime
Minister’s offices, Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi told his
audience that he sees Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East,
as a natural candidate to join the European Union. Berlusconi, whose
country is slated to take over the chairmanship of the EU in July,
said he hopes to use Italy’s status as EU chair to further
stability in the Middle East.
Earlier in the day the Italian PM caused a stir when he announced he
would not meet with PA chairman Yasser Arafat. In retaliation for
this, PA Prime Minister Abu Mazen refused to meet with
Berlusconi.
